Prime Minister Keeps in Touch Through Call-In Programme [18.09.08]

Prime Minister, Bruce Golding, opened the lines of communication with Jamaicans in a way that has never been done before, with the launch of a one-hour radio call-in programme, Jamaica House Live, on January 30.

So popular is the programme, that it has been extended to one and a half hours.

The programme is part of the Government's thrust to interact with the public, and to hear suggestions, comments and general feedback from Jamaicans, at home and abroad. Additionally, it provides a forum for Government to report on its stewardship, in implementing policies and programmes to improve the lives of the citizens.

Through the programme, which has been well-received, the Prime Minister has spoken to a number of issues, and reiterated his focus on the training and development of the country's human resources, job creation, and investments, as the planks for bringing about growth in the economy.

MUST WATCH: R. Kelly Speaks! [Full Interview][His First & Last Time Speaking On His Sex Trial] [17.09.08]

Despite his trial and all that tribulation, R. Kelly remains a man of the people. The legal people, that is.

"I have some 19-year-old friends. But I don't like anybody illegal, if that's what we're talking about, underage," he said recently when asked during an interview with BET News whether he has a thing for teenage girls.
Sean Paul Gives Back To Lebron james Foundation [17.09.08]

Here's an odd celeb/label pairing - Jamaican dance-hall king Sean Paul front-row at Y-3 yesterday. SEAN - in jewel-encrusted sunglasses, a giant sparkly medallion around his neck and neon lady friend sitting next to him (yellow checkerboard pants, a sequin pink bra and dozens of plastic bracelets) - looked bizarrely out of place, further evidenced when he could barely control his laughter when boys took to the runway in dresses.

Last weekend reggae artist Sean Paul bought a basketball designed Ralph Lauren for US$1000. The basketball was among items on auction at Ralph Lauren Lebron James Family Foundation Event this past weekend.
Get Smart Riddim Selection - Ward 21, CeCile, Natalie Storm [14.09.08]

Get Smart is the brand new riddim selection produced by Phlatline Sound Productions, Germany. The new dancehall-r’n’b selection is the result of a consequent effort. In total, nine artists are featured and so the selection offers a huge musical variety and several different styles. The Get Smart riddim skillfully forms a new entity by uniting hip hop and melodic elements of reggae. 100 bpm demonstrate its impulsive character which encourages everyone to dance and party. The new riddim selection presents once more a dynamic mixture of established reggae/dancehall and up-and-coming artists.

The undisputed big tune on this production is “How You Wine” by Ward 21. Their innovative and energetic style makes it a catchy hit tune. Also the Sojah strugglers walk the talk and produced the second tune for the new German label. “Just The Vibes” is again a perfect party anthem and joins the first production “Party All Day” (Newstah).

Negril wants party zone - Special area would operate beyond Noise Abatement Act hours [14.09.08]

With Negril's entertainment sector taking a financial battering due to the enforcement of the Noise Abatement Act, the resort town's business and entertainment stakeholders want permission to operate outside of the hours prescribed by the law in a specially designated zone.

Speaking at a recent meeting called by the Negril and Western Jamaica MSMEs (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) to outline plans to transform the town into the Caribbean's cultural hub, the organisation's chairman, businessman Carey Wallace, noted that because of the Noise Abatement Act Negril was not able to offer the round-the-clock entertainment promised visitors.

"As things are, we have no choice but to comply with the law, which states that shows should end at midnight during the week and 2 a.m. on weekends," said Wallace. "We would like to see that change, because it is having a negative impact on the town."

Cherine Anderson is fresh off the 2008 Tailgate Tour with Slightly Stoopid, Pepper and Sly & Robbie and The Taxi Gang; a 21 date summer tour which weaved the bands through the US from Santa Barbara, California to St. Augustine, Florida. Cherine impressed audiences from city to city gaining new supporter along the way. The bands sold out the famous Red Rocks Theatre in Colorado and warmed an audience who braved the rain to enjoy the music. This saw Anderson playing triple duty - first performing her set with Sly & Robbie, followed by performing a remix of Pepper's "Like Your Style" during their set and then returning to the stage with Slightly Stoopid at the end to perform her own hit "Good Love".

Cherine says of the tour, "WOW, where do I begin? The tour exceeded all my expectations! I love, love, loved it. We started in California and ended in Florida playing to sold out audiences most night, and the energy from those crowds was indescribable. Sly & Robbie turned up that heat every night it was just great. And working with Slightly Stoopid and Pepper was amazing. Those guys are so passionate about what they do. It was like one big musical family."
