Asafa Powell anchored the Jamaican 4x100m relay team, guaranteeing the third gold medal and world record for Usain Bolt in 37.10 seconds today in teh Olympics, Beijing.

Bolt ran the third leg of the relay, handing over the baton to former 100-meter world record-holder Asafa Powell. Bolt obviously yelled and pointed as Powell began the anchor leg.

Asafa shared that "It's a great feeling, I was really excited to go out there and give Usain his third world record."

The Jamaican 4x100m relay team, which also included Nesta Carter and Michael Frater, defeated the old 400 relay mark of 37.40 set by the United States at the Barcelona Olympics in the 1992.

Bolt will add this record to the records he has set in winning the 100 meters (9.69) and 200 meters (19.30) in Beijing.

The Jamaicans were nearly a full second faster than relay silver medalists Trinidad and Tobago, which finished in 38.06, while Japan took the bronze in 38.15.

Kartel adds congratulations [22.08.08]

"Congrats to Mr Bolt, Shelly-Ann Fraser and the entire Olympic team for yet another mind-blowing display of raw Jamaican talent, strength and determination. Usain and Asafa Powell will undoubtedly go down in history as two of the greatest male athletes ever," the statement said.

"And I have to give special congratulations to the women who created history with a clean sweep in the 100 metres final. Our Jamaican women are world-beaters in almost every endeavour or occupation. Overall, the Jamaican Olympic team has proven that with combined effort, teamwork and humility, we can indeed conquer the unconquerable and achieve what was thought before to be impossible and I lift my hat to them and congratulate them with all my heart," Kartel expressed.

Bolt sets yet another record, being the first man ever to win both 100m and 200m finals [19.08.08]

Usain Bolt broke the world record by winning the 200 meters in 19.30 seconds, defaeting Micheal Johnson' record, becoming the first man since Carl Lewis in 1984 to sweep the 100 and 200 gold medals at an Olympics.

Bolt is the first man ever to break the world records in both sprints at an Olympics.

Proving to the world that running at his fastest speed can and did break a record many thought un-breakable, something he hadn't done yet in the Beijing Games.

Bolt was 0.52 seconds ahead of silver medalist Churandy Martina of Netherlands Antilles.

Shawn Crawford of the United States, the defending Olympic champion, was third after teammate Wallace Spearmon was disqualified for running out his lane. The U.S. is protesting the ruling.
OLYMPICS: Melanie Walker breaks the Olympic record in the 400m hurdles [19.08.08]

Melaine Walker of Jamaica won the gold medal in the women's 400-meter hurdles in an Olympic record, dethroning Deon Hemmings National record of 52.82 mad ein 1996.

Walker won in 52.64 seconds in the 400m hurdle finals, with Sheena Tosta of the United States taking silver in 53.70 and Tasha Danvers of Britain third in 53.84.

Melanie Walker's victory came minutes after her countryman Usain Bolt completed a sprint double by winning the men's 200 in world-record time.
OLYMPICS: Shericka Williams' Silver Medal Run [19.08.08]

Shericka Williams added a silver medal to Jamaica's pot tonight, after running a cleverly-timed race to beat event favourite, Sanya Richards of the USA, who could only manage third.

Britain's Christine Ohuruogu, repeated her performance at last year's World Championships, just holding on from Williams to double as Olympic Champion.

Jamaica missed out on the medals in the Women's 100 Metres Hurdles with Delloreen Ennis-London and Bridgitte Foster-Hylton finishing fifth and sixth, respectively.

Sports Minister, Olivia Grange, who watched the action at the Bird's Nest, congratulated Jamaica's performers on the fifth night of athletics competition.

She described Williams' run as an extraordinary feat of bravery and said the week held some more incredible results in store for Jamaica. "Shericka showed incredible fight tonight and could have had a gold medal. Even though she was led for most of the race she summoned the strength in the final stretch to pull through. It was a show of pure determination and she has achieved a good result for her years of hard work."

'Usain is Doing What Comes Naturally'... Jennifer Bolt [19.08.08]

Usain Bolt's mother Jennifer saw a world champion in him from he was 12 years. So it's no wonder she remains unfazed by the drama that is unfolding in Beijing. She passes a cursory glance at her picture in China's largest English newspaper, The Post, snapped after her son's historic win and quickly dismisses the notion that, like her son, she has taken on celebrity status.

She has been fending off the interest of international media, turning down TV and newspaper interviews. "I am just here to support Usain.to see him do well. We are swamped by requests for pictures by people from all over the world. We are coming to terms with what is happening but we are just waiting for the next races and praying for the best."

She said the killer instinct that Usain Bolt is displaying on the track has been part of his character since he was a kid. "Usain is a guy who doesn't like to lose. He has been like that since primary school. The world saw a bit of it when he went to the World Junior Championships and now they are witnessing it on the biggest stage of all."

Shelly-Ann Fraser heads Jamaican 1-2-3 in women's 100m [17.08.08]

Jamaicans proved they are the world's fastest humans on Sunday when Shelly-Ann Fraser won the women's 100 meters at the Olympics 24 hours after Usain Bolt's record-setting victory in the men's event.

Fraser led a unique Jamaican triple, already celebrating with her fist pumping the air as she crossed the line with two teammates in canary yellow in her slipstream.

Fraser finished in a season-leading 10.78 seconds, with Sherone Simpson and Kerron Stewart sharing silver with in 10.98.

It was the widest margin of victory in an Olympic women's 100m final since 1988, when U.S. runner Florence Griffith-Joyner set the world record.

It was also the first medals sweep of any 100m since 1912, and the first ever for the women's 100m in any Olympics or world championship.

"It's wonderful. Top three for Jamaica -- history," Simpson said. "This says a lot for our country."

In the battle of sprinting powers it was Jamaica 2, USA 0 after the 100s, and 4-1 overall in the medal count. It was stunning domination.

As extensive a tradition of stellar sprinting as Jamaica has, the Caribbean island of about 2.8 million people never had won an Olympic gold in the 100 until Bolt's victory on Saturday.
