Queen I-Frica makes tri-state debut at the 8th New Jersey Reggaefest [05.09.08] |
On Sunday, September 21st, G City Entertainment, Road Block Radio, MG Promotions, and Team A Promotions present the 8th Annual New Jersey Reggaefest. Marked 'The Year of the Great,' 2008's staging promises to be the biggest and best yet, with a rare U.S. performance from royal Reggae empress Queen I-frica, as well as highly anticipated performances from the greats of Reggae and Dancehall from yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
Last year's sold-out event featured the onstage lyrical devastation of Dancehall's reigning 'Don Gorgon' Ninja Man, who squared off against rival deejays Bounty Killer and Beenie Man. This year again, in a showdown dubbed 'three the hard way,' the rivals return for another lyrical showdown that is sure to have the Dancehall aficionados reeling. The NJ Reggaefest is also the only summer festival that Bounty Killer's scores of die-hard Tri-State fans will get a chance to see the 'Warlord' live in action, as this is the only outdoor staging that he will be doing in the area for 2008.
Known as the "Fiyah Muma" Queen I-frica, who scored her first hit single with "Below the Waist," in 2007, has emerged as one of Roots Reggae's foremost conscious stars, stirring controversy and social awareness by addressing incest and child molestation on her follow up chart-topping single "Daddy," and the dangers of Jamaica's latest skin bleaching trend with "Mi Nah Rub." The daughter of legendary Reggae singer Derrick Morgan, I-frica is looking forward to making her Tri-State area debut. I-frica's manager, legendary Roots singjay Tony Rebel, confirms that the Queen is ready for 'the year of the great' NJ Reggaefest.
"Yeah, this is I-frica's first time appearing in the Tri-State area, since she has become famous," states Rebel, who scored his first of many big hits in 1990 with "Fresh Vegetable" and has since gone on to found record label and management firm Flames Productions. "She is really looking forward to coming to New Jersey for the ReggaeFest; the Tri-State area is definitely a huge market that has been waiting for her, and she is more than ready to deliver." |

Mr. Vegas has been blessed with a red-hot summer -- chock-full of highly rated performances, tours, hit songs and underground smashes. His infectious new dance tune "Round of Applause" is currently ripping up the underground scene in Jamaica. And because the song has been received by raving reviews from dancehall fans, Mr. Vegas is set to shoot a video for "Round of Applause" this weekend.

Popular video director Jay Will is on board for the "Round of Applause" project......and rightfully so, as he has is responsible for a number of highly acclaimed dance videos for Mr. Vegas, which have won over worldwide audiences. Just think of "Hot Wuk," "Tek Wey Yuhself," and "Daggering," to get a snapshot of Jay Will's impressive repertoire of Mr. Vegas videos.
"After reading Jay Will's treatment, I have no doubt that this video will be something that will make an impact on the industry," says Mr. Vegas' manager Garfield "Chin" Bourne of Irish and Chin, Inc. "Jay Will and Mr. Vegas have a chemistry that I would never consider disturbing because the end product is always phenomenal!"
With a penchant for perfectly capturing the essence of a hit, JayWil is confident that "Round of Applause" will be the best dance video ever surfacing from the shores of Jamaica. On the set, the director plans to maximize Mr. Vegas' "dance craze" potential.
"Mr. Vegas has a way with dance tunes," says Jay Will. "I truly believe that an accompanying video will keep 'Round of Applause' in the limelight and keep the fans dancing."
"I have been anxiously anticipating the 'Round of Applause' video," adds Mr. Vegas. "Now that I have joined forces with Jay Will, we can give the fans just what they've been asking for." |

| Asafa Powell clocks 9.72 at Athletissima [03.09.08] |

Tuesday at the Athletissima Grand Prix in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Powell finally decided to show his true potential, maybe two weeks later than when it was needed, nevertheless, his performance was definitely one of pure speed, perfect form, and one with ease.
Powell's time of 9.72 equaled Bolt's run in setting a then-world record in New York last May, however, it was 0.03sec outside the 9.69 world mark that compatriot Usain set at the Beijing Games on August 16..
Also at the same meet, Usain Bolt clocked 19.63 seconds after easing up before the finish in his first 200-meter outing.
Bolt ran 30 minutes after fellow Jamaican Asafa Powell achieved the second-fastest 100 ever on the same Swiss track.
It was reported that Powell said "I came here full of confidence, and the track is fabulous and the fans are just great."
Also he shared; "I'm very happy,". "It's a bit late. But I'm very happy after all that I've been through this year."
Finally he said; "Usain has always had a lot of respect for me,". "So if I go out there and I run fast, it's not any surprise."
Usain Bolt shared his views on Powell's run; " Asafa did well tonight and I congratulate him,". "I guess he's doing pretty well now." |
