| My time to shine, says Bolt [01.08.08] |

For sometime now, Usain Bolt has been fighting to step out of the shadows of fellow countryman Asafa Powell, and now that he is the world's fastest man, the 21-year-old Jamaican says it's finally his time to shine.
Bolt, who two months ago supplanted Powell as the world record holder in the 100 metres at the Reebok Grand Prix in New York, says he is not surprised at his recent success.
Not surprised
"Well, things have been coming together for a long while now so I'm not really surprised," Bolt, who dominated his career as a junior, said.
"I've been doing well over the years. I guess it's just my time now I would say."
Bolt leads the world in the 100 metres with his world record run of 9.72 seconds and the 200 metres with a career best and national record of 19.67 seconds.
He is expected to leave Beijing with at least one individual gold medal and two if he runs the sprint double. But despite the huge expectations, the lanky sprinter says he feels no pressure.
"The only way you are under pressure is [if] you put yourself under pressure," said the runner nicknamed 'Lightning Bolt'.

| Must Have Accessories for the Fall [01.08.08] |

When you really think about it, what defines an accessory? Wikipedia (my favorite source for all things unknown) says, “ decorative items that supplement ones garment.” However, accessories don’t always play a supporting role in an ensemble’s story, today they often are the stars of the show. Whether a bangle or watch, shoes or hats, bright or soft, accessories can up the “fab factor” of any outfit. So this Fall as the leaves change and the breeze sweetly turns into a wind keep in mind that no outfit is complete without one of the following:
1) Printed Tights (stockin’ girl.com, $24.99), 2) The Unisex Fedora (Missoni, $177), 3) Big Watches (Guess, SE-1 Ladies Timepiece, $450), 4) A’Vant Garde Headbands (Urban Outfitters, Skinny Feather Headband, $18), 5) Chain Link Necklaces (Rachel Leigh, Sundance Layer Necklace, $198), 6) Sexy Booties (Prada, $785), 7) Band Bracelets Example, 8) Western Inspired Pieces (Stella McCartney, $1,045), 9) Animal Skin Clutches (Alexander McQueen, $595), 10) Harley Boots (Marc Jacobs, price upon request) |
| She might be Chris Brown's Baby Mother [01.08.08] |

Another chick is claiming another superstar knocked her up and is her baby’s daddy. The newest allegation is against Chris Brown. A 19 year old woman names Michelle Gasper called in to a Tappahannock, VA radio station (Chris’ hometown) a few days ago to spill the beans abut how allegedly he is the father of her 4 year old (yes–4 year old) son. She even claims Chris and his mother Joyce have been paying her silence money since Day 1.
A Local Virginia native, Michelle Gasper, a 19 year old from Tappahannock, Virginia called her local radio station Saturday morning claiming that singer Chris Brown and herself had been in a relationship for over 2 years before he signed a record deal, and released his self-titled debut album in 2005. | Titanic's Been Unsinkable...Until Dark Knight? [31.07.08] |

Ten years after sailing off with $600.8 million, Titanic remains the top-grossing movie of all-time, a title which, up until The Dark Knight onslaught, hasn't been seriously challenged.
Why?
Statistically speaking, says Jeffrey Simonoff, borrowing a famous line from screenwriter William Goldman, "Nobody knows."
"Many people have noted if the stock market is a high-risk market, the movies is far riskier," says Simonoff, professor of statistics at New York University's Stern School of Business.
Huge opening weekends and great buzz certainly increase a movie's odds of making lots and lots of money, but beyond that, Simonoff argues, it's all guesswork.
"What Titanic had was the amazing word of mouth that just kept growing and growing," Simonoff says. "[But] it wasn't like after the second weekend people could say this is going to be the No. 1 movie for the next three months."
Actually, Titanic was the No. 1 movie at the weekend box office for about three-and-a-half months, or 15 weeks, the second-longest run in the top spot after E.T., which logged 16 weeks there in 1982.

| National Security Ministry to Install CCTV Systems [30.07.08] |
The Ministry of National Security will be setting up Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) surveillance systems across the island to monitor public spaces, as part of its strategy to tackle crime.
Minister of State in the Ministry, Senator Arthur Williams, during his presentation in the State of the Nation Debate in the Upper House on July 25, said that CCTV systems are being developed in Montego Bay, May Pen and Mandeville.
He noted that in Montego Bay, there is a public tender out for a CCTV system to cover the Hip Strip, Sam Sharpe Square, and the market area. "This is being partially funded by the Tourism Enhancement Fund. Already, the Fund had assisted with the acquisition of a mobile CCTV unit, which is currently in use in Montego Bay. When the new CCTV system is in place in Montego Bay, the mobile unit will be integrated with the system," he informed.
Also, in Mandeville and May Pen, the Ministry has been working with the Chamber of Commerce in these parishes and has completed the technical specifications of these systems. The final layout and system design should be completed within the next two weeks and implementation should begin by September.

| Sprinter Dunkley dropped from Jamaican Olympic squad [29.07.08] |
Sprinter Julien Dunkley was dropped Tuesday from the list of Jamaican athletes competing at the Beijing Olympics but Jamaican Olympic officials would not confirm he tested positive for doping.
Dunkley's name has been removed from a group of 53 Jamaican athletes that had been posted on the Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA) website, but JOA head Mike Fennell said "the website has been under modification from day to day."
"You can draw your own conclusions but I am not going to say anything further at this point," Fennell said.
Fennell had earlier said the athlete who tested positive was not considered a "top athlete" and that he would be dropped from the team and his absence "won't affect anybody who is clean".
While the identity of the doping positive athlete remains unconfirmed, Dunkley fits the description. He finished sixth in the 100 metres final at last month's Jamaican Olympic trials, where the positive test was taken.
The athlete tested positive for the banned substance Boldenone, a favorite among body builders.
Dunkley would have been in a position to compete for Jamaica in preliminary rounds of the sprint relays.
Fennell said Jamaican Olympians are "extremely disappointed that one of their colleagues has let them down."
"It is a very sensitive and important issue and we have to be careful with how we treat it," he said.

| Dancehall Star Busy Signal to release album Loaded on September 09th [29.07.08] |

VP Records is proud to announce the release of Busy Signal, arguably the hottest and most versatile lyricists currently in dancehall. On his groundbreaking sophomore album Loaded, in stores September 9th, the leading Jamaican deejay unleashes an arsenal of progressive hits that could ultimately redefine dancehall.
This eagerly awaited landmark contains #1 smashes like “Jail”, “These Are The Days”, “Unknown Number” and “Wine Pon Di Edge” that are dominating the dancehall scene worldwide despite their obvious difference in style. This is one of Busy’s trademarks and displayed throughout Loaded. His sense of fun and mischief is allowed full rein on tunes like “Wine Pon Di Edge,” “Hey Girl”, hip hop/dancehall hybrid “Tic Toc” and “Cool It Baby,” which Busy programmed himself. Yet it’s his powerful commentaries on the ghetto lifestyle, like “These Are The Days” that have lent Busy Signal’s art its raw edge, and made him into such a potent mouthpiece for the disenfranchised youth of Jamaica and beyond. “Knocking At Your Door”, “People So Evil” and “Curfew”, are the latest examples of this, whereupon real life and his talent for storytelling combine to often spine-chilling effect.

| Grange regrets positive test result [29.07.08] |

Sports Minister Olivia Grange last night expressed disappointment with the reports that a Jamaican athlete who was selected to represent the country at the Beijing Olympics has tested positive for a banned substance.
Grange, however, declined to comment further, saying she would do so after the doping process, which includes appeals, is completed.
"If there is any positive in this, it is that our doping procedures work," she said.

| How Bad Are iPods for Your Hearing? [29.07.08] |

Hearing loss is more common than ever before. About 16% of American adults have an impaired ability to hear speech, and more than 30% of Americans over age 20 — an estimated 55 million people — have lost some high-frequency hearing, according to a new study published Monday in the Archives of Internal Medicine. The finding has got experts — and concerned parents — wondering anew: Does listening to loud music through headphones lead to long-term hearing loss?
If you're using the earbuds that come with an iPod and you turn the volume up to about 90% of maximum and you listen a total of two hours a day, five days a week, our best estimates are that the people who have more sensitive ears will develop a rather significant degree of hearing loss — on the order of 40 decibels (dB). That means the quietest sounds audible are 40 dB loud. Now, this is high-pitched hearing loss, so a person can still hear sounds and understand most speech. The impact is going to be most clearly noted when the background-noise level goes up, when you have to focus on what someone is saying. Then it can really start to impair your ability to communicate. |

| New Whitney Houston Song Hits the 'Net [27.07.08] |

It's been five years since we heard new music from R&B diva Whitney Houston, and it looks like the wait is finally over. Houston posted her new song, 'Like I Never Left,' featuring Akon, on her official MySpace page this weekend. While the diva seems to be back to form, Akon struggles through an awkward verse as he attempts to sing on the same track as Houston. The songstress indirectly proclaims her return to the scene on the new single as she croons, "Yes, your girl is coming back" and "I want you to love me like I never left." Houston's upcoming album is due this fall.
